Designed by Dimitrios, the large Baroque style bracket in basswood was carved to show his students the infinite possibilities of carved wood. This showpiece, as are many of his showpieces, illuminates the creative process, so it is deliberately not finished. Note how the upper scroll begins as a shell and ends as a cornucopia. Basswood is an excellent wood for this type of detailed carving as it renders detail clearly, without adding the character of wood pores or grain.
